Licymnius was an illegitimate son of King Electryon, and a grandson of Perseus. Like his father and siblings he was a descendant of Zeus and Poseidon.

History[]

Licymnius was the illegitimate son of King Electryon and Mideia, a Phrygian woman. Licymnius married Perimede, a daughter of Alcaeus and sister of Amphitryon, and became the father of Melas, Argius and Oeonus.

Licymnius was the only one of Electryon's sons to return home after the unsuccessful war against the Taphians and Teleboans. Licymnius also accompanied Amphitryon when the latter was expelled from the Argolid and fled to Thebes.

Later in his life, he was accidentally killed in his old age by Heracles' son Tlepolemus, when the latter was beating one of his servants with a stick. Licymnius ran in between them to stop it, and Tlepolemus stabbed him with a sword. He was buried in a tomb Argos.
